KITCHEN REMODEL - PROJECT
The existing kitchen caused many problems for the children and the cooks in the kitchen.
There were no structures in the kitchen to cook even 1 family's meal - especially not for 82 children and staff.
- Smoke hazards

- no ability to safety cook for 100 people daily
We understood that the Food & Nutrition Grant that was being issued; there would need to be a safe space for them to prepare meals daily.
in June 2025 we issued a grant to completely strip down the kitchen and strengthen and widen the existing structure and install proper ventilation and an institutional commercial rocket stove to properly prepare meals for the Orphanage.

PIT LATRINE / TOILET - PROJECT
When we 1st arrived in May 2025 and saw the condition of the Toilets / pit latrine; our hearts were in dismay and we could not believe that the children and teachers had no way to use the facilities in a sanitized or dignified manner. Some children were even barefoot when they entered.
Upon arriving back in the states we decided to focus on tearing down the old and build a totally new building. As we were going through the process of due diligence on contractors; the township did a surprise inspection and gave them an ultimatum to fix immediately of shut down.
We were able to issue the grant in July and the project began. The township and neighboring businesses worked with the orphanage through this process to make sure it was a success. Children were allowed to use the neighbors bathrooms on both sides through the construction process.
Grand opening was in December 2025

NEW - WATER TANK

WATER TANK PROJECT
3000 Liter Reserve water tank installed and completed on 5/13/25 - The public water lines were also repaired and restored to allow water to be transferred through the UV Filter system to make it drinkable. The water tank provides a 5 day worth of water storage in cases of a water emergency.
The area of Kyotera also experiences electrical outages frequently. So, prior to the water tank being installed, if power went out - the UV Filter system can not work to provide drinking water. And the power can stay out for days at a time. The children would have to take water containers and walk a 15 Mile round trip to the community well. This well has approx. 350 Steps down to the base and they would walk down and fill up the containers and walk back up and back to the orphanage.

NEW SANDALS - PROJECT
upon arrival to the Orphanage we notice that the majority of the children did not have shoes or were sharing shoes of others that had them.
Orphanage staff told us that; Everyday life at the orphanage used to include small hazards that compound into real harm,
muddy paths after rain, pit-latrine approaches, rough playground surfaces and walking long distances to fetch water. The children lacked protective footwear and would constantly return with scratches, infections and a constant low-level fear of injury.
So, in August 2025, we initiated a grant to purchase NEW Sandals for each child at the Orphanage. Staff has stated that foot related injuries were reduced dramatically.
